The palm oil plantations of Malaysia are spectacularly beautiful and go on as far as the eye can see: rows and rows of tall palm trees with shady avenues running between them, thick ferns growing along the edges, and sudden patches of secondary jungle with purple, pink and orange flowers. The off-road adventure never stops, and we rush into steep valleys and clatter across wooden plank bridges over muddy rivers, then soar up the other side and continue winding through more rows of green before finally reaching the national park’s border.
Once inside the cool shade of the rainforest inside the park, we crash along a narrow dirt road through dense primary jungle for about an hour before finally reaching the base camp. If you’re lucky, you may sight wild Asian elephants but chances are you will see more elephant dung than the animals themselves!
We lunch at the base camp then head down to the Endau River to board boats for a 30 minute cruise through the jungle. Our destination is the Kuala Jasin rapids where you can choose to hike to one of the many waterfalls nearby, or simply spend the afternoon swimming in the calm green pools of the river where the water is so clear you can see pale fish darting among the rocks on the sandy riverbed.
On the way back, you can climb into a canoe and paddle the rest of the distance back to the base camp yourself. At the base camp we shower and change, then start heading back to Singapore at about 5pm, stopping for dinner in Kahang on the way, and reaching Singapore by 11pm.
We have had our fair share of adventures on our many trips into the jungle, with fallen trees obstructing the roads, and getting stuck in the mud after a heavy tropical rainfall, but no worries- we come prepared for emergencies. We carry all the necessary equipment to get us out of the jungle safely, and the guides are all experienced drivers who have completed advanced driving courses. So contact us today and experience an off-road adventure like no other in the oldest rainforest in the world!
